Authorities arrest man in Hopewell double homicide

Authorities yesterday arrested a man in Surry County in connection with Sunday’s slaying of two Petersburg men in the Arlington Heights area of Hopewell.

Hopewell police, with the assistance of Waverly and Richmond police and members of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, apprehended Shawn Wooden, 34, of Richmond in the shooting deaths of Kashif Temple, 24, and Antonio Spain, 22, according to a Hopewell police news release.

Wooden, who has family in Surry, was charged with two counts of murder, using a firearm in the commission of murder and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony. He was also served with a grand larceny warrant from Petersburg.

Temple and Spain were found shot to death in a car about 10 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of Freeman Street, a neighborhood near Winston Churchill Drive and Arlington Road.

Both men died of gunshot wounds to the head, according to the state medical examiner’s office.
