Prince George County police think one man likely committed three recent robberies of convenience stores there and in Chesterfield County.
"It's a very strong possibility," Prince George police Lt. Brian Kei said yesterday.
The man in all three robberies matched the same description: He wore a black mask over his face, a hooded gray sweatshirt and black pants. He showed a handgun, silver with a brown grip, in both Prince George robberies, but the man did not display a gun in the Chesterfield case.
No one was injured in any of the robberies, and in all three cases the robber escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The first robbery occurred Tuesday at 9:19 p.m. in Chesterfield at the Nash Mart at 1740 E. Hundred Road, near an exit for Interstate 295. Police said the man wore dark gloves with white at the wristbands, weighed about 165 pounds and stood about 5-foot-10.
The second robbery happened Tuesday about 10:45 p.m. at the Uppy's convenience store in the 12000 block of South Crater Road in Prince George, near the Rives Road exit on Interstate 95 and just north of the interstate's intersection with I-295. In that case, the man threatened the clerk with a gun.
The third robbery occurred yesterday at 1:27 a.m. at the Valero convenience store in the 5000 block of Oaklawn Boulevard, near I-295 in the Hopewell area.
"Both of these convenience stores are located right off of the interstate," Kei said of the Prince George robberies.
Chesterfield police haven't come to any conclusions about whether the robberies were related. "We have not made any definitive connection to the incidents in Prince George," spokeswoman Ann Reid said.
