A robber with a gun and another with a Taser robbed two people at a Monument Avenue apartment last night and then tried to break into another apartment, police said.

About 6:25 p.m., the two armed men approached a man and woman at an apartment building in the 3400 block of Monument Avenue, said Richmond police Capt. Scott Booth.

The robbers tried to tie up the man, but they stopped when he resisted, Booth said. They made off with a purse, cash and credit cards. Neither victim was injured.

One or both robbers also kicked the door of another unit in the same apartment building, but the door didn't open. Witnesses saw the robbers leave in a blue van, Booth said. Authorities located the van in South Richmond and arrested one suspect.

Police said they had strong leads on the other suspect, Booth said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
