Henrico man pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter in Louisa resident’s death
A barrage of late-night gunfire in eastern Henrico County in February that took the life of a Louisa County resident and wounded another man resulted in a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter yesterday.
Judge L.A. Harris Jr. of Henrico Circuit Court sentenced Jerrod Wall, 19, of the 2000 block of Brockway Lane in the Central Gardens neighborhood to 10 years in prison, with five years suspended.
Wall was among at least three people who opened fire Feb. 24 on two Louisa residents who traveled into the New Bridge community off Nine Mile Road trying to sell a handgun from their vehicle, according to court documents and testimony in the case.
Antonio Maurice Shelton, 23, of Bumpass received multiple wounds, including a fatal injury from a bullet through his chest. Another victim, also of Bumpass, David C. Swann, 25, escaped with injuries to his leg.
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Michael Estes said the plea agreement followed a lengthy investigation into the case, but one that failed to turn up weapons, including an AK-47, used in the shootings.
Two other assailants have not been located.
As many as 17 rounds from the AK-47 were fired during the confrontation near the intersection of Hawkes Lane and Newbridge Road.
