Gunshots hit home in Prince George

Prince George County authorities are investigating why a group of people fired at least 89 shots into an occupied home Sunday in the 3800 block of Spring Road.

No one was hurt.

Police believe 10 to 12 people in three vehicles parked in and around the neighborhood, then walked to the home and opened fire about 8:12 p.m.

"It appears that the house was hit at least 89 times by bullets," said Prince George Police Lt. Brian Kei.

Another house also was hit by a single stray bullet, he said.

Investigators believe the gunmen used two assault-style rifles.

After the shooting, the people got back into their vehicles and drove away. Police obtained a description of only one of the vehicles, a white Ford Expedition, Kei said.

Police haven't determined why the house was targeted. Kei said the homeowner didn't provide a possible reason for the shooting, "but we're working with him . . . to get some motives together." -- Mark Bowes
