Chesterfield police seek four males in bank-card fraud

Chesterfield County police are looking for four males accused of using bank card information to purchase items and withdraw cash from automated teller machines in the Chester area and along Interstate 95.

Police say the men captured the bank card data using a "skimmer" device placed on a BB&T Bank ATM at 12840 Jefferson Davis Highway on July 25. A skimming device is disguised to look like ATM equipment and typically is mounted on the front of the machine.

The suspects were described as four white or Hispanic males in their mid-20s to late 30s. They may be driving a beige Ford Fusion or Taurus with a front license plate.

Anyone with information can call Chesterfield police at (804) 748-1251 or Crime Solvers at (804) 748-0660.

This week, Richmond police said a thief used five fraudulent bank cards at an ATM in the Fan District last Saturday.

Like the Chesterfield cases, the thief used stolen information gained by a skimmer to create the cards and access the money. Thieves can use information obtained from skimmers to make ATM cards with fraudulently obtained card numbers and PINs. -- Mark Bowes
