A homeless man was seriously injured in a stabbing along West Broad Street in Richmond today.

Police Capt. David L. Martin said the man, with numerous wounds, was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Martin said the stabbing appeared to have occurred about 1:30 a.m. at a covered bus stop where the man frequently slept in the 2300 block of West Broad, near the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles headquarters.

The victim went about three blocks in search of help before he was found in front of a 7-Eleven convenience store in the 2000 block of West Broad, Martin said.

Investigators were working this morning to develop information about a motive and suspects, and they planned to consult state offices and businesses in the area to view security surveillance camera footage.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (804) 780-1000.
