Here is what will happen (at least in Hanover). He will get a court-appointed attorney (who will be VERY good…that’s the system in Hanover). His lawyer will wait for his hearing and plead not guilty. Then, the game of “let’s make a deal” will begin. The lawyer will try to get the cases dropped and in exchange his client will cop to “driving without a commerical license” or some bogus charge. The CA will agree to dropping most-in exchange for information on the people that the equipment was sold to. Then when Rasheed goes to trial he will get a big sentence, with most if not all the time suspended and MAYBE a fine. Meanwhile who gets screwed? The equipment owners, and the taxpayers. DOn’t believe me? Log into the Court case system and just take a gander at the circus they call justice. Wait and see-because I will be.
He is just a misunderstood product of our culture and environment. Had society taken better care of him during his formative years, this would have never happened. There is no way he can personally be accountable for the damage when everyone is to blame.
Tracy are you a Muslim ?
I caught a preview of this discussion while glancing at today’s headlines. Saw Mr.M’s name & knew right away the defendant must be African-American. Clicked-on the story. I was not wrong.
MR M , clearly I was not making an inclusive observation. If so, I would have mentioned numerous actions of a whole range of religious extremists and the nut-jobs associated with plenty of Christian bodies not to mention some Jewish extremists in Israel. There are plenty of people who commit crimes or who are just lousy human beings who go to church on Sundays—and think they are right by god—and I am a big citric of them. And there are pathologies galore related to certain religious profiles The statistics you talk about have been studied. The information is out there—but this particular aspect interests me right now. I do not know the stats on it yet, but it is worth looking into. Of what % of young black men who are not born into Muslim families in the US—but who change their names and religion to said—are involved in recidivist criminal activity. (The middle eastern names attributed to a cultural identification are de facto of that culture’s religion)
On the surface it seems to be a trend—but I will do more homework. The larger point—(again at face value) is that
evidently the black Muslim movement—while touting moral behavior does not translate that way to some (many?) young men who imitate it in name. (Oh yes lets play the Christian
card too—) but that being said other than Mohammad Ali and a few exceptions—where are the Muslim social leaders and youth to model after and set an example. There seem to be plenty of young black men with Islamic names popping up in the crime stats these days
who don’t come from the middle east or northern Africa—but small town USA. Its very simple, if they are going to talk the talk then they have to walk the walk. Thank you for your time.
Tracy in your research could you find the religons of white collar crimes ,fraud ,embezzelment,or maybe crimes against children ,family suicides , such a broad area but the knowledge that you share would be of great service .Thank you in advance for your contributions and concerns .
Dear MR M:
There are no “motives” per se—only passing comment on a growing phenomenon in our society that should be addressed
openly and without any hang-up—and this article allowed that to be proffered. It is not a subject that should be relegated only to those with an angle or a “motive”. The really bad crimes of this character—combined with the usual MO of the Islamic name is an on-going trend in the US crime scene among certain groups—or haven’t you noticed. It should not be generalized away nor should we be deluded by the “broader area” in order to avoid it. It is not an ongoing concern of my research. But I can assure you it is being researched by those in control
and is no small concern to the Black Community. Since you are wont to give advice—here’s some for you: show more
concern for the crimes he has committed and then your “motives” will be more
up-front. I have friends from the Middle East—who are true to their faith—So you can check that one off your list of assumptions,..,.
Tracy i would think your investigating of the Muslims and you being struck by this mans name as an issue ,There’s alot to say about your motives .He committed a crime just as people of all religons have done , letting your reseach cover broader areas would be a benefit .
IS THIS WHAT ISLAM TEACHES ?
I find it fascinating that this young black man had an Islamic name—but did not come from the Middle East nor was he living according to the tenants of the Koran. Did he pray to Allah several times a day ? Wasn’t he getting enough inspiration from his fellow Muslim brotherhood to keep out of trouble? Will he be asking for a special prayer
rug and religious privileges when he hits the big house where all those other inmates have similar Islamic names?
Here’s a quote from one of the many dubious articles on Black “liberation” theology:
“One element of Islam that has attracted many African-Americans is the fact that Muslims have a strong reputation for living what they preach. Whereas church members might spend much of their week hanging out and drinking, Muslims demonstrate discipline, respect, and personal integrity that many in the black community feel is lacking among many members of the church.”

Oh really ?? Not according to the numerous Islamic names that are racking up the
prison blocks. Names of black men—born in the USA. Remember John Allen Muhammad the I 95 sniper—The tip of the iceberg. And least I forget Sa’ad El-Amin, that Yale-educated attorney who was one of the City’s councilmen—also a former inmate of higher learning on Federal charges. Do a cursory search on black Muslims involved in crime—particularly the young—and you will be very very surprised at a growing trend. Angry young men who claim a religion of morality yet terrorize society.
Piracy on land…..what did they do with pirates back in the day? Until the gov’t or whoever seriously cracks down on these losers, they will keep on stealing.
