Henrico teen sentenced for trying to take baby from hospital

A 19-year-old woman traumatized by violent deaths and loss in her family left the Henrico Courthouse this morning a free woman.

Ebony Tucker had pleaded no contest to charges that she had attempted to take a newborn infant from Henrico Doctors' Hospital (Forest) last year.

But emotional testimony this morning from psychologists and Tucker's tearful mother showed she may have been acting out in the wake of multiple deaths in her family and her own perception that she had miscarried.

Circuit Judge Gary A. Hicks sentenced the former Highland Springs High School standout and aspiring nurse to five years in prison, with all but six months suspended. The court allowed the month in jail Tucker spent as well as months of home incarceration to count toward the six months.

At the very least, this woman should have been sentenced to a mental health facility. Regardless of her life experiences, the baby she stole and the mother of the baby, should not have had to suffer. Unfortunately we will read about her again, and the courts will not do the right thing until she kills someone.

Great, so now she becomes a nurse and gets easier access to babies.  Where’s the justice.  Plenty of people deal with similar traumas and don’t try to steal someone else’s baby.
