The mother of a 2-year-old boy who died in May with signs of being malnourished was arraigned yesterday in Richmond Circuit Court on charges of child neglect and felony murder, authorities said.

Ashley C. Williams, 24, was indicted Monday on the two charges in the death of her son, D'Sean Williams, and arrested that night.

On May 30, authorities responded to a medical emergency call at the home occupied by Ashley Williams and her son in the 1900 block of Newman Road in the Fulton area. Attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful, authorities said.

A spokesman for the state medical examiner's office said yesterday that the finding of a cause of death was pending, but authorities say the boy appeared malnourished.

No one answered the door yesterday at the home on Newman Road.

Ashley Williams was being held without bond last night at the Richmond City Jail. A bond hearing is set for tomorrow. She faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted of both charges.
