Henrico County police have arrested eight people in an undercover sting operation that targeted escort services involved in prostitution and other illegal activites.

Police said they conducted the operation Wednesday at an undisclosed hotel near Richmond International Airport. The effort involved an undercover officer posing as a customer who contacted escort services on Craigslist.com and businesses listed as escort services in the phone book, authorities said.

Five women and three men were arrested on various charges, including prostitution, conspiracy to commit prostitution, conducting an unlawful massage and possession of cocaine and heroin.

One of the bad things in all of this is that those people will get a slap on the wrist from the courts and will back out on the streets. What they are doing IS illegal, drugs and prostitution. Come on….who wants that element hanging near their homes NOT ME!! Next thing to come will be drive by shootings and some innocent victim getting caught in the cross fire. HCPD did the job they were hired to do, now it’s up to the court to punish these people for breaking the law and maybe some type of rehab for the drugs.

I think they could have put those resources into finding the 10 people on their 10 most wanted list.  After all, they’re the 10 most wanted for a reason!

I’ll admit not all the blame goes to the HCPD.  The reason they deserve some blame, though, is that a legislator was probably not the one who decided they should use resources to bust these prostitutes.  As far as prostitutes strolling the streets where I live, these people weren’t strolling any streets.  The prostitutes were found on Craigslist and in the phonebook.  If this bust did anything, it drove these prostitutes back to the streets.  Before taking any issue to the legislature it is wise to drum up some form of public support.  Here I am in the public square explaining my beliefs and the benefits of my ideas in hopes that I may get the public support necessary to convince my legislator to do things differently.

Why are you criticizing the PD for doing their jobs? Their job is to enforce the laws that are made by the legislature. If you feel that a law banning prostitution is pointless then talk with the legislators, don’t take it out on people doing their jobs. Sure it may not be one of the most pressing issues, but would you like for your children to see women and men soliciting their bodies on your street corner? I wouldn’t. It appears that this is not a problem in your area of town, and if it were you would have a different view on having something done. If you don’t like the laws, then use the rights you have and talk to a representative, who is supposed to be listening to you in the first place.

HCPD…what a waste of time & money..I’m sure there are child molesters in the airport area. The areas around RIR are drug infested.
Protecting us? On a list of things to worry about in Henrico, this ranks 999, on the police detective “bucket list” these operations rank in the top 3…LOL

Some of the posters seem flippant about the HCPD’s busting of the prostitution operation.

You don’t understand the consequences of this—STD and drug abuse.  These are not minor problems, but are considered major problems in our society.  These offenses usually lead to other illegal activities.

When has sex ever been free?

We all pay for it one way or another.

Good job, HCPD.  Now if we could just stop those pesky Girl Scouts for soliticing their devil cookies in public places, we’d all be better off.

BTW, can I get a box of Caramel Delites please?

So glad the police are busting these horrible operations.  I mean an illegal massage? My God!!!  Thank you Henrico county from protecting me from all the evils of paying for sex.
