Two Richmond-area students recently earned college scholarships.

Jessica J. Jenson is the recipient of the 2009 Pamplin Leader Award from Thomas Dale High School in Chester.

The Pamplin Leader Award is a one-year $1,000 tuition scholarship to Virginia Tech. It is presented annually to a top student from each public high school in Virginia. It was established by Robert B. Pamplin Sr. (VT Class of '33) and Robert B. Pamplin Jr. to recognize students for academic achievement, community service and leadership experience.

Jessica, a 2009 graduate of Thomas Dale, will attend Virginia Tech in the fall to pursue studies leading to a pharmacist career.

Kathleen Maxey, a rising junior at Longwood University, has been awarded a $500 scholarship for the third consecutive year from VA Gamma Eta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators.

Alpha Delta Kappa scholarships are awarded to outstanding female students who intend to pursue a career in education.

A liberal studies major focusing on elementary education, Maxey is completing her student-teaching practicum at Enon Elementary School in Chesterfield, where she is working with a first-grade class.
