Four local H-SC students listed in Who’s Who
Four local Hampden-Sydney College students have been recognized as outstanding campus leaders in the 2009 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
They are:
Howard plays midfield on the varsity soccer team and is a resident adviser. He is president of the Acousticals and the Tiger Pep Band and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Men's Chorus and the Tiger Athletic Club.
A Patrick Henry Scholar, Kerr is head resident adviser, a Student Court Investigator and vice president of the Fly Fishing Club. He is a member of Chi Beta Phi (science) honorary society, the Student Admissions Committee, the Pre-Health Society, the Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Rugby Club and Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity. He received early acceptance in his sophomore year to Eastern Virginia Medical School.
McCormick is president of Kappa Sigma social fraternity and is a member of the Interfraternity Council.
Surface, a Patrick Henry Scholar, is editor of The Hampden-Sydney Tiger newspaper and chairman of the Board of Publications. He is president of Omicron Delta Kappa honorary society, vice president of the Computer Science Club, secretary of the Pre-Law Society and treasurer of both the Union Philanthropic Society and the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
He also is a member of the Philosophy Club, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, the Fencing Club, the Classical Liberals and Chi Beta Phi (science) honorary society.
Twenty-six students from Hampden-Sydney College were selected for this year's edition of Who's Who. Students are nominated by seniors, administrators, faculty and coaches based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
Students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934. A private men's liberal arts college located 60 miles southwest of Richmond, Va., Hampden-Sydney first enrolled students in 1775.
