Some may change school to L.C. Bird
Chesterfield County school officials have scheduled a meeting for tonight to hear from parents and students in three neighborhoods where students could be transferred from Meadowbrook High School to L.C. Bird High School.
Ampthill Gardens, Kingsland Glen and Kings Forest are part of a redistricting proposal tied to a $4.5 million expansion at Bird slated to be completed in the spring.
The renovation at Bird will add eight classrooms and several labs. After the expansion, school officials plan to transfer some students next fall to relieve overcrowding at Meadowbrook.
Meadowbrook, which is on Cogbill Road off Iron Bridge Road, is one of the most overcrowded high schools in the county, serving about 2,000 students. That's about 400 students over capacity, said Shawn Smith, a spokesman for the Chesterfield school system.
The proposal would allow students who will be seniors next year to stay at Meadowbrook.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Meadowbrook High's auditorium. -- Juan Antonio Lizama
