Henrico considers dress code for teachers
After setting a countywide dress code for students, the Henrico County School Board is now considering one for staff.
Staff would have to comply with the student dress code. The draft policy also bans blue jeans, flip-flops and facial piercings for staff. Sneakers would be allowed only when necessary for a job assignment. Tattoos would have to be covered if considered "offensive" or "distracting."
In a survey of school employees, complaints focused on whether jeans should be allowed on casual Fridays and whether sneakers are essential for more than physical education teachers.
The School Board will discuss the issue at a work session tomorrow. A vote is likely in August.

I saw a girl w/an entire garden of tulips on her chest.. growing out of her shirt.. I imagine that would be a little distracting.. lol. I don’t think sneakers should be banned though. I just don’t see anything wrong with the teachers being asked to dress like they are going to a job instead of a day on the beach…
Who decides whether or not a tattoo is distracting?
I guess alot of students love hearing this possible rule change. Score one for the students. ha ha
I agree—set by example!
wow a dresscode for teachers now in henrico their really trying to make sur we cant wear anything now but dress cloths arnt they the students dress code for girls is crazy its pretty much liek they dont want us to show any skin but i feel bad for the teachers cause alot of teachers stand like all day an the female one that wear heels man they gona be like hurry up an be the end of the day
It would be appropriate for teachers to have a dress code, just like it is appropriate for students. Dressing in a respectful manner in school should be mandatory for all of them. I would have them carefully consider the athletic shoe issue as many teachers spend a lot of time on their feet and sneakers may be the most comfortable shoes to be wearing while they do the job. I don’t see a problem w/casual friday jeans.. but I think that dressing “up” a little may make the atmosphere in the classrooms less casual and might be more conducive to learning.
