Text glitches mar monthly VCU emergency test

-- Virginia Commonwealth University is checking into a problem that occurred during yesterday's monthly test of its emergency communications system.

Some text messages that were sent out to alert members of the university community about the test were blank, the school said. The school said the correct message was sent to everyone, but some subscribers received blank messages in addition to the correct message.

"We are working with our vendor to determine the cause and correct the problem," said John M. Bennett, VCU's senior vice president for finance and administration.

The monthly exercises, which feature one-minute tests of the emergency siren systems on both of the downtown Richmond school's campuses, are designed to make sure VCU's emergency notification system is in working order.

Reverend,

My belief all along has been that the Va Tech shooter would have been taken out before many of the murders if Va Tech allowed concealed weapons on campus.  The folks that carry concealed weapons are trained and licensed.

What’s the point of a text message as long as the sirens work?

If you’re at VCU, then you’ll hear the sirens.  If you arrive at VCU after an attack, the cops will be everywhere.

How about those people that (GASP!) don’t have a cell phone and/or text messaging?  Or the people that turn off their cell phone during class?  Or the people that leave their cell phone in their car?  Oh well! Should have paid the extra monthly fee to my cell phone provider - that way I wouldn’t have gotten shot…

Yes, let’s have that “glitch” occur during an actual emergency. The results will be terrifying.

VCU is located in the middle of a city. Why do we have “special rules” treating them as if they have a separate campus in the middle of no where. IE: Tech.

Let your students who have concealed handgun permits carry! Let them choose for themselves how to protect themselves against thugs, villians, and miscreants.
