Chesterfield teacher captures regional honor

State and Chesterfield education officials surprised regional teacher of the year Carolyn Wilkerson this morning at an assembly at her school.

Carolyn Wilkerson, a science and math teacher at Tomahawk Creek Middle School in Chesterfield, was named the Central Virginia region 2010 teacher of the year.

Virginia Department of Education and county school oficials surprised her with the announcement at her school this morning. One teacher was chosen for each of the eight regions across the state as teacher of the year. They’ll be competing for the 2010 Virginia Teacher of the Year Award. 

Wilkerson, a Midlothian High School graduate, has been teaching at Tomahawk Creek for two years. Previously, she taught at Swift Creek Middle School.
