Crashes on Virginia highways fatal to four
A 23-year-old man, one of 10 passengers in a minivan, died at a Wythe County hospital early yesterday after the van rolled three times on Interstate 77 in Bland County.
Virginia State Police said Jose Luis Rivas Morales of Alvarez, Mexico, died shortly before 2 a.m. at Wytheville Community Hospital. Morales was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
Also yesterday, 18-year-old Hakeem Bowen of Painter died at the scene of a crash when the car he was riding in struck a tree and overturned in Accomack County. The crash occurred about 1:27 a.m. on state Route 614, two-tenths of a mile west of state Route 619. Bowen was not wearing a seat belt, state police said.
Carol Ann Spearman, 47, of Orange died Saturday shortly after noon when the pickup truck she was driving left U.S. 15 in Madison County three-tenths of a mile north of state Route 634. She was wearing a seat belt, according to state police.
On Saturday in Norfolk, Julio Angel Rivera of Metairie, La., died when his motorcycle struck a car as he exited Interstate 64 onto Brambleton Avenue near Park Avenue. Rivera, 19, died at the scene shortly after 8 p.m.
