Halifax couple, Farmville boy killed on Va. highways

A Halifax County couple from Nathalie died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday when their Jeep left the road and struck a tree.

State police reported that Gary V. Anderson, 47, and Rachel Terry Anderson, 49, died at the scene at 8:40 p.m. Both were wearing seat belts, police said.

The crash occurred on U.S. 501, three-tenths of a mile south of state Route 795.

A 2-year-old boy died Saturday when he ran in front of a car in Prince Edward County at 8:20 p.m. Addison V. Mina of Farmville was hit as a vehicle pulled onto Longwood Avenue, just south of East Third Street. He was the 21st pedestrian killed on Virginia highways this year, compared with 36 at this time last year.

The total number of highway fatalities was 223, compared with 287 at this time last year.
