3 Virginians die of car-crash injuries

A Manassas man died of injuries he suffered in a single-car crash in Fairfax County yesterday, Virginia State Police said.

Roberto Rivas, 28, was traveling north on Sully Road, south of McLearen Road, at 3:04 a.m. when his vehicle struck a guardrail, ejecting Rivas. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

  • Russell Crowder Bedford, 90, of the 5700 block of Jahnke Road in Richmond died Nov. 9 at VCU Medical Center of injuries he suffered in a three-vehicle crash on Nov. 4. Police said Bedford's car was struck by a pickup as he pulled out of Pineway Drive onto Forest Hill Avenue and then was struck by another car. He was wearing a seat belt, police said.
  • Dorothy P. Pitts, 86, of Bowling Green was traveling north on U.S. 301 at the intersection with state Route 619 in Caroline County on Monday, when her car was struck by a pickup at 2:04 p.m. She died Tuesday at a hospital. She was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
