More than 400 roads and several bridges are closed in Virginia because of high water or other weather-related problems.

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that many of the affected roads are secondary routes. Flooding is the main problem but downed power lines and trees also are reported in some areas.

VDOT says the Midtown Tunnel and James River Bridge in southeast Virginia will remain closed Friday morning because of high tides. The James River Bridge is expected to reopen after the morning rush hour and the Midtown Tunnel is expected to reopen after noon.

The Jamestown-Scotland Ferry service won’t resume until after noon Friday. VDOT suspended the ferry service Thursday as heavy rains and high winds lashed the state.

Richmond-area police reported a few road closures this morning as a result of the two days of heavy rains that have swamped the region.

Hanover County authorities said Meadowbridge Road was closed at the Henrico County line, and Creighton Road was closed, also at the Henrico line.

In Henrico, Poplar Spring Road was closed at Portugee Road.

Chesterfield authorities said Bailey Farm was closed at Genito Road and Hickory Road was closed at River Road.

In Richmond, authorities reported no major problems with the roads.
