Crews still trying to clear Route 360 at I-295 interchange

Emergency responders are still clearing a wreck on Route 360 (Mechanicsville Turnpike) at I-295 this afternoon, though one eastbound lane is now open.

About 11:50 a.m., a logging truck traveling north on I-295 took the exit to Route 360 east, said Captain Michael J. Trice, Hanover Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

“At the off ramp there’s a fairly sharp right hand turn, and we believe the vehicle was going too fast,” he said.

The truck overturned on the off ramp and more than a dozen logs spilled onto Route 360, closing the road eastbound from Elm Drive to Bell Creek Road. Shortly after 2 p.m. workers had one eastbound lane open.

The truck driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and will be charged with misdemeanor reckless driving, Trice said. There were no other injuries, but when the logs fell on the road, another vehicle was hit in the front, causing minor damage, he said.

I-295 south drivers are encouraged to continue on I-295 south to Creighton Road (Exit 34) east, turn left on Cold Harbor Road/Lee Davis Road to Route 360
east.

Westbound Route 360 is open, as are I-295 northbound and southbound. Trice said that Route 360 should be clear by evening rush hour, though the area would probably have partial lane closures tonight or tomorrow to remove the logs from the side of the road.

...then from the rail yard, by tractor trailer, to its destination in the “stock yard”, warehouse, etc.  It has to go from the rail yard to the buyer somehow.  Not many places have rails to their facilities.  Distribution centers for example get all receiving goods via trucks

Another day, another overturned tractor-trailer wasting thousands of peoples’ time (and usually, some innocent lives to boot).  I suppose someone’s going to blame this on a Prius somehow?

Move freight by rail.  Cheaper, cleaner, safer.
