TABOR CITY, N.C. — A sheriff says a North Carolina state senator shot one of two intruders at his home and hospital officials say the man is in fair condition.
Multiple media outlets reported that Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said that 74-year-old Sen. R.C. Soles of Tabor City shot Kyle Blackburn late Sunday afternoon.
A spokeswoman at Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina said Monday that Blackburn was in fair condition.
Batten says the shooting occurred when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door. No charges have been filed.
The sheriff’s office said the State Bureau of Investigation was handling the case. A call to an agency spokeswoman was not immediately returned. There was no answer at a number listed for Soles’ home.
The Democrat has been in the Senate 32 years.

Enigma, you misunderstood my point. In the majority of the USA, the odds are that someone around you is already carrying legally without your knowledge. Only Illinois and Wisconsin prohibit that entirely. Thus, your phobia is only activated at the sight of an openly, peacefully carried gun on an individual behaving in a non-threatening manner.
Rather than fearing legally openly carried guns you should be grateful that they are allowed as a balance against those carried illegally for illegal intent.
You also can’t compare Canada to the US in that we have the Constitution that guarantees our individual right to keep and bear arms. Let them and Australia (which banned handguns) do whatever they choose - our Founders were brilliant enough to foresee the need to have an armed citizenry. We’ve seen how magnificently the DC handgun ban went ...
Pjohn, You can’t compare Canada to the US. Canada has one tenth the population of the US. Also you don’t have the large groups of ethnic gangs that comprise most of the murders and violence in the US.
Canada has strict gun controls, is as free as the US, and has a far lower crime rate, especially involving guns, than the US. The only major crime area is Toronto because the crime flows across the river from Detroit.
Those examples of yours have nothing to do with me I am just one person voicing my opinion. Just because I choose not to own a firearm that doesn’t mean I am giving up control nor am I trying to restrict the rights of others to have a firearm. If people want one then fine but I have no need for one and it is my right not to be around people who choose to have one.

I don’t know why you are struggling to understand this my travel is not restricted in anyway I know the laws in the books but that doesn’t change my opinion of my reaction. I don’t trust people with firearms because I don’t know them I don’t know if they are sane or not and instead of trying to find out I will just remove myself from the situation.
Enigma,
I wonder if all the Jews that lived under Nazi Germany felt the same way? Maybe the people of Cambodia during the reign of Pol pot. Or Stalin’s Russia? If only the cops have guns, we will be safe they said. You seem to be afraid of an ordinary CITIZEN with a firearm but do not fear an entire police force or government officials. How many ordinary citizens disarmed those around them and commited genocide?? HIstory is filled with examples of police and governments exterminating their own unarmed people, compare the numbers to someone like Charles Whitman or the DC sniper.
Studies even show if you give absolute control, authority and power to a group on individuals over a group of helpless people, the ones in control lose all respect and empathy for those they under them and result to violence and torture. Click on this link for a reference.

With that being said, as long as police have guns, i will too. History shows, ordinary citizens are alot less deadly then police and government.
Enigma, you stated, “Bottom line if I am out in public and I notice anyone other then law enforcement carrying a firearm then I am leaving that place period.“ Does that mean you fear only visible firearms? Forty-eight states have provisions for legal concealed weapons. Forty-two states have allowance for legally openly carrying firearms. That means that your phobia of firearms could seriously restrict your travels. You should seek help, counseling.
How typical of the liberals. Two-faced hypocrites that they are ... They can have guns themselves but will lobby to take guns away from the public at large. Are they somehow better than or better equipped to handle a weapon than conservatives? What a great testimony to the hypocrisy that is the Democratic party!
