KILLEEN, Texas — A civilian police officer is being praised for taking down a man suspected of opening fire on fellow soldiers at Fort Hood when she shot him in the torso.

Police officials say after arriving at the scene of Thursday’s gunfire, Sgt. Kimberly Munley saw the suspect and started firing at him.

Munley’s boss, Chuck Medley, told The Associated Press on Friday that Hasan then spun around and charged at her with a gun in each hand.

Medley says Munley shot the alleged gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, in the upper torso, allowing officers to take him into custody. Medley says in the exchange of gunfire, Munley was shot in the thighs and wrist.

The 35-year-old Munley is from Pennsylvania, used to be in the Army and is married to a Fort Bragg, N.C. soldier.

Agree!! Great Job. Where are all those people who were making negative posts when the female CPD officers were put into a deadly force situation off Lucks Lane earlier this year???? I’m sure someone on here will find a criticism…

This Officer made a rapid decision to act on a dangerous terrorist in-order to defend the people. Maybe she should be president.

Agreed, you go girl. We are very proud of this young lady for saving the day. She is a true American Hero. This terrorist act could have resulted in many more American lives lost without her bravery.  Men take note and stop your discrimination against women who want to serve as police officers.

You go girl!

Nice to see a woman prove that with the right firepower and training anyone can make a difference in this type of situation..

Thank you Sgt Munley for taking action & probably saving many more lives.  I am guessing that he intended to do as much damage as he could.
