Metro officials are warning commuters to avoid Metrorail’s red line if possible and expect delays throughout the system after a fatal crash between the Fort Totten and Takoma stations.

This morning, trains will run between the Glenmont and Silver Spring stations and between the Shady Grove and the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood station.

District officials say North Capitol northbound has been rerouted at Riggs Road, a section of South Dakota Avenue is closed and Nicholson Street is completely closed.

Officials say only inbound lanes on New Hampshire Avenue will be open during the morning rush and will close between North Capitol and Eastern Avenue at 9 a.m.

MARC’s Brunswick Line service was suspended this morning.
