Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., plans to visit five nations in Asia and meet with government officials and industry leaders.

Webb is scheduled to leave Sunday. The two-week tour includes stops in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

Webb says a member of Congress hasn’t visited Burma in more than 10 years.

The Virginia Democrat is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s East Asia and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee.

25% to 30% reduction in insurance to doctors malpractice insurance doesn’t seem miniscule to me.  Obama’s stated several times that doctors run more tests than needed to protect themselves from lawsuits.  But he uses the argument when it suits him.

I saw his address to the AMA several months ago.  He got a lot of groans from doctors when he said he wouldn’t put limits on malpractice suits. I didn’t hear any of them cheer or clap in approval.

Ever take a look at you insurance statement and see how much the tests cost?  Now multply that thousands of time a day.

Whether the GAO says the savings are miniscule or not - Why isn’t it on the table? We’re all supposed to have some skin in the game - Right!  Everyone except the lawyers?

Don’t forget - The GAO also said that Obama’s plan would not reduce costs.

Another point is that the AARP is one of the most powerfull lobbying groups in Washington.  I wonder what deal has been struck with AARP to get them to sign on.

I’m not against healthcare reform.  We need to do something to bring costs down for the average person and especially for business.  Everything needs to be considered.

“It’s well known that the biggest factor in healthcare costs is malpractice insurance and all the asscoiated tests so doctors can defend thamselves from lawsuits.“

It’s well known by people who get their information from scare-tactic TV ads paid for by billionaires interested in preserving the status quo, or who are paid to lie on their behalf.

Otherwise, it’s simply not true.

Let’s see what the AARP has to say about this ridiculous myth: “The Congressional Budget Office estimates that while tort reforms could lower malpractice-insurance premiums for physicians by as much as 25 to 30 percent, the overall savings to our health care system would be a minuscule one-half percent.“

12steprevenge - Bush did try to stop the subprime lending and and you know who fought him on it?  Obama did and it’s well documented.  I fault Bush and the Republicans for not campaigning hard enough in the issue.

The fact is, Obama should STFU when he tries to pin everything on Bush and the Repubs.  He did nothing as a US Senator to fix the problem.  I would have voted for the guy if he had been out there alerting everyone to the comming crisis.

So the next time you hear your President try to pin the blame on Repubs, ask yourself why none of the Dems tried to stop subprime lending and weren’t leading the charge to fix it.  They’re spineless hypocrites!

Also - Why doesn’t Obama put caps on malpractice suits in the healthcare reform bill?  It’s well known that the biggest factor in healthcare costs is malpractice insurance and all the asscoiated tests so doctors can defend thamselves from lawsuits. He won’t so lawyers like John Edwards can continue getting rich suing doctors and hospitals.  Now Obama wants to raise our taxes to keep supporting this system!  No - He’s not raising mine to fund wealthy lawyers lifestyle.

Why don’t you do write a letter to Obama and Senators Warner and Webb and ask them why they will not touch caps on malpractice suits.  I did and they won’t answer the question.

I blame all the freakin knuckleheads in Washington for this mess. All of them are a usless waste of skin and couldn’t run a 7-11 if they had to.

Jack, nice variation on “I know you are, but what am I? “. Real professorial material, Mr. Junior College.

SG: Why didn’t the Republicans do it in all the years they controlled Congress? Why didn’t the Democrats do it when they got control? Heck if I know, but my best guess is that the money being shelled out by large corporations through lobbyists achieved their goals of making a bunch of money at the expense of the rest of the republic. All the while, Republicans stood in protest at any attempt to regulate anything outside of what people do in the privacy of their own homes? Why have you centered in on one or two people? How about the other 534 members of Congress? Seems to me like you’re trying to blame anyone, everyone, for your situation. Heck, why didn’t you run for office yourself and singlehandedly reform Congress? Why didn’t you, SG?!?

That’s one way to avoid The People of the Commonwealth who are ready to spit nails over this whole ObamaCare fiasco.
Another, and much less expensive way to avoid the folks back home, is to hang out with Governor Kaine for 2 weeks.

12steprevenge - I too have worked since I was a kid.  I cut lawns and raked leaves and did what ever I could to make a buck.  I’m applying and inteviewing for jobs paying half what I was earning but everyone keeps telling me I’m over qualified for the job.  I hate unemployment and so do all my friends.

So answer my question 12steprevenge.  Why didn’t the Democrats (Obama too)launch and all out campaign against subprime lending and explain to the American people the damage it would do to the economy?  Answer the question and don’t blame it on the Republicans.  Why didn’t Obama sound the warning back in 2005 that the subprime lending would eventually cripple the economy? Answer the question. Please explain to me why he didn’t.

Also, Why didn’t Joe Biden, the champion of the middle class, write a bill to reform the credit card industry?  Answer the question.

12steprevenge - You’re the chump if you won’t answer the questions.

Blowhards are a dime a dozen on the internet.

Thank you for giving us a self assessment of your participation on the comments section of the TD. You forgot to add the most important word that would describe you. “Narcissistic”.

Jack…  as for your insinuation that those who teach are too dumb or incapable of performing well in the private sector, well, that statement reflects more poorly upon its speaker than anyone else. Over 80% of the teachers with whom I work have their Masters degree (myself included), many are published authors, and as a whole, we are pretty articulate. I know that all pales in comparison to the status afforded a big time former volunteer community college teacher such as yourself, but hey… we lowly public servants do what we can with our meager means.

However, you’re not in a position to cut anything and aren’t worthy of the respect that usually is afforded the elderly, so do your worst, Chump. Blowhards are a dime a dozen on the internet.

“So 12step who’s the chump?“

Must be you as it definitely doesn’t fit me. I have worked since I was 11. 6-1/2 mile Times Dispatch Paper Route. Later 3 jobs to provide for me and my family. No tax money like you get as a teacher. By the way I taught at John Tyler Community Colleges for two years. Not paid by tax money but my employer.

Those who make their living receiving their checks provided by taxpayers better be a little more cordial to the hands that feed them. We can always cut, cut and cut some more. It’s not nice to call one of the people paying you a chump.
