To understand the original intent of America, simply read the poem on the Statue of Liberty. It is all about receiving people yearning for freedom. There is nothing in there about taking care of anyone, fixing anyone, or taking stuff from one person and giving it to another.

The Nobel Peace Prize is usually awarded to someone who has accomplished something noteworthy over a period of time. It has now been reduced to a joke. This is unfortunate for the president because he will be burdened to prove that he is worthy of the selection.

A recent correspondent opined that no one is giving credit to the Cuban government for providing free, quality health care to 100 percent of its citizens. And yet, these citizens still risk their lives to come to America for that little thing known as freedom. Too bad our own leaders don't understand that.

The Russians got what they wanted when the current administration sold out the Czechs and Poles by canceling the European missile defense system. However, when the U.S. asked the Russians to join in imposing new and tougher sanctions on Iran, they flatly refused. What happened to quid pro quo? Being the world's nice guy in a not-so-nice world seldom pays.

Congress received a 5 percent pay raise this year -- its reward for double-digit unemployment, failed programs, and record deficits. Meanwhile, people who receive Social Security checks are told there will be no cost-of-living increase due to the economy. Don't worry, President Obama plans to give them a $250 bonus. I wonder if Congress will tax that bonus just like it did with the Cash for Clunkers rebate money?

A naIve thought: Members of Congress are elected to represent their constituents. However, since more Americans are opposed to President Obama's health care proposals than favor them, just who are the members of Congress representing? Themselves? Would they please explain this to the American people.

It is ironic that this "transparent" administration has declared war on Fox News for its fair and balanced presentation of all news -- including politics. I remember the movie "A Few Good Men" in which Jack Nicholson, portraying a Marine colonel under attack by prosecutors, responded by saying; "You can't handle the truth." How appropriate is that comment in this day and time with this administration? Is media censorship far behind?

To the cowards responsible for the hateful racist graffiti that has popped up recently in our city parks: In this country, you're guaranteed the right to free speech, no matter how vile. So until you're ready to take the hood off and stand behind your words, do us all a favor: Climb back under your rock and stay out of our parks.

The Richmond baseball team is now known as the Flying Squirrels. This is discriminatory as it does not include non-flying squirrels. In the interest of political correctness, this needs to be addressed. I can't imagine the stink when the ACLU gets a hold of this.

Just an observation about the TV news media and public image. I just finished watching Robert Gibbs deliver his press conference today (10/30/09) from the White House. Two dramatically different visuals: 1)CNN digital he looks sharp, dark suit, dark hair and polished. 2)Fox digital his suit was grey which made him looked pale and weak and his hair was much thinner. Interesting?
There’s certainly no need to “blame Obama for false stuff.“ After all, he’s given us more than enough, starting with a nearly Trillion-dollar “stimulus” bill, that his own top economists has basically told us has fizzled out.
Oh, and the next time President Change whines about “inherting” a decifit, would someone please remind him that good chunk of that is the TARP bill, which he voted for? In other words, President Obama inherited what Senator Obama supported. Political sleight of hand is bad enough, schizophrenia is something else, entirely.
Rather than Murdoch, I’m sure someone would rather work for CNN, which “fact-checks” a SNL skit poking fun at Obama, but doesn’t bother to “fact-check” their own quote of Limbaugh, of which there was no one shred of evidence.
If the truth is worth some money, I think someone just ran up a debt.
The Nobel Peace Prize is an even bigger joke than some think. The nominations went out at the beginning of February. That’s less than 2 weeks after Obama’s election.
Basically, it can be summed up by one, simple fact: Yasser Arafat was given the Nobel Peace Prize. I think that says more than enough.
I agree with “thetruth”. I am all for posting ones “2 cents” but please know your facts before you post something.
“Congress received a 5 percent pay raise this year—its reward for double-digit unemployment, failed programs, and record deficits. Meanwhile, people who receive Social Security checks are told there will be no cost-of-living increase due to the economy. Don’t worry, President Obama plans to give…”
2 cents leads right-wing charge for the T-D. Has T-D already been acquired by Rupert Murdoch? Oh goody! Let’s see how we can blame everything on Obama, even false stuff.
Yes, Jan 1, 2009 members of Congress received a pay raise. We who receive Social Security benefits also received a 5.8% COLA (cost of living adjustment). COLA is based on annual increase of COL, if any, from Oct 1 - Sep 30 of each year. We are not penalized with reduction when COL drops, as did from Oct 1, 2008 - Sep 30, 2009). Thus, we will not get a COLA Jan 1, 2010, per the 1972 law relative to the COLA system, passed by R-Richard Nixon’s Congress. What the heck; let’s blame Obama anyway.
March 11, 2009 the Democrat-majority Congress put into law (2010 fiscal budget) a pay freeze for members of Congress; thus, NO pay increase Jan 1, 2010 for Congress (last page (466) of Public Law 111-8; SEC. 103. Regardless, we ought to ignore such Democrat action, and make-believe they will get an increase, and…blame it on Obama.
As Rush Limbaugh noted after he spread the internet hoax lie about Obama’s Columbia U. thesis, “he surely thinks the words (hoax of lies)”; thus, it must be true…cause nuts want it to be, right?
How much is 2 cents worth? Not much, but it ought to be worth some truth.
