Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana sold her vote for $300 million. I hope Sens. Warner and Webb don't give their votes away for nothing. They may need some political cover when the realities of the health care reform disaster hit. With under-the-table deals like Landrieu got for her state, they can't try to pass this thing off as deficit neutral, either. Some people might not be paying attention to what Congress is doing, but they aren't stupid. When the taxes start and the care they're accustomed to decreases, it will be hard to blame that on President Bush or the Republicans.

President Obama wants to crack down on government waste. A good place to start would be to get rid of about 30 of his czars. We don't need a bunch of Marxists roaming around the White House.

The Virginia Department of Transportation should consider opening the closed rest stops and placing a service charge or toll collection system at the exit of all rest stops. Most drivers should not object to a small charge for this convenience. It may even help the entire system to break even.

Wouldn't the work of the 11 Associated Press staffers who fact-checked Sarah Palin's book have been put to better use analyzing the 2,000-page health care proposal and explaining it truthfully to the American public?

With the imminent Senate health care bill debate, I have sent both Virginia senators, Mark Warner and Jim Webb, the message: "Ask not for whom the bell tolls."

Many people question if Sarah Palin is fit to be president. She should go on TV and show her birth certificate, proving how old she is and where she was born. I think all politicians should have to prove how old they are and where they were born.

President Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." It seems to me that President Obama is doing that. He's staying out of the White House and traveling the world as much as he can because he can't stand the heat.

The radical Attorney General Eric Holder has decided to give the terrorists who attacked America a criminal trial in our civilian courts even though there is no precedent for this. This will give the terrorists a forum to spew their propaganda. Another error by a radical Obama appointee that is going to hurt America.

Regarding the Senate seat for sale in Illinois: Roland Burris, who should have been charged with attempted bribery, was only charged with misleading investigators. The ethics committee found him guilty and scolded him. Shouldn't he have been given a more serious punishment? Like smacking his palms with a ruler?

With regard to the health care bill: Is it right that those who are passing the law and voting on the bill don't have to abide by it? They are passing laws they don't have to abide by, but we can be found guilty of a felony if we don't abide by it.

NPR with its liberal slantings?
That’s totally understandable, since NPR is not FOX, and after all, there was that little issue of 4 years ago when there were allegations of NPR being biased. According to Media Matters, a progressive media group, numbers showed 63% of NPR experts from think tanks came from right-leaning organizations while 37% came from left-leaning organizations. There we have it. Proof NPR must have liberal slantings, as after all, there was that 37% of input to them from lefties. Some find fault in NPR not leaning 100% conservative, and for some, that is understandable. What further proof do we need than that lefty auto advice show, “Car Talk”. Be aware. You listen to those guys long enough, they’ll have you driving your pick-up that only turns left.
Never know. There are others of dubious nature that might have a percent or two of liberalism inserted into their broadcasting. There is PBS, Disney, Discovery, Hallmark, Smithsonian, Discovery Kids, Smile of a Child (gotta be some sinister liberal agenda behind such a name), and too many others.
Best we have Fox-only, along with the drugster tossed in for icing. Yes sir. All yea need are those outlets. Be careful. There is a local newspaper that might not be conservative enough for some folk, although the editor of 2 Cents is applauded for making sure there is proper balance of postings. Of ten postings on Nov 29, there was that one that slipped through the cracks; the one about charging folks to leave rest stops, a liberal idea for raising taxes, surely it be. That commentary section is suppose to be for conservatives-only and its choir. Got to work on making sure it stays that way. Don’t want any liberal slanting labels, right?
Don’t believe all you hear on NPR with its liberal slantings.
Actually I regret that last line it should read “convert to terrorism” as true Islam is a peaceful religion. Sorry.
Mr Packett says”...the terrorists who attacked America a criminal trial in our civilian courts even though there is no precedent for this”. Not sure which stone you have been hiding under but the first terrorists that attacked the WTC were tried and convicted in criminal court in NY and the world didn’t end. The only person that is likely to damage our judicial system is you! Nor one of the jury members, guards or attending press will listen to the drivel that comes out of these terrorists mouths and convert to Islam!
Someone may be asking too much of another who does not understand Hawaii is truly a state.
We’d think birthers would have meekly slithered under their rocks by now, but there are some still trying to sell snake oil. Po things. What’s truly a pity is some even believe the stuff. We feel like laughing and saying, “Come on now. Surely you jest?“, but after being so ridiculed, those left appear to plum not know any better. The jokesters have long departed the stage. What’s left is…well, is what it is.
Perhaps a small portion of the truly far-out portion of the drugster’s ditheads?
Jim Seay- Here’s something you might not have been aware of: Hawaii is an actual state. Yup.
Also, citizenship at birth may be conferred if either of an individual’s parents are a United States citizen.
The more you know…
Truth without deceit.
First, the idea our current for-profit-only health care delivery plan increasing in cost by double-digits annually is affordable is a farce. In addition, National Public Radio (NPR) polling finds doctors are among the biggest supporters in the United States of a public option in the health care overhaul with nearly three-quarters favoring a public option, per research conducted by Mount Sinai School of Medicine. As to malpractice rates, per Sep 3 issue of Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal, the total cost of malpractice insurance, legal fees, and settlements amounts to just over 1% of our total delivery system. If tort reform is such a big issue, the Cheney/Bush duo with their Congress had six years to reform the entire system of such, not just with healthcare portion. Separate issue. Want to bet Cantor, Boehner, and such of GOP cloth will insert overall tort reform into their 2010 campaign platforms?
Second, Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu did not try to hide the benefits of her success for Louisianans in obtaining needed funding to cover a vast Medicare fund shortfall that starts Y2011. She was rightfully proud to announce before voting on Nov 21 to start debate on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the provision in the Act for some of the funds that would offset $900 million in Fed Medicaid cuts for LA. While the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported the provision would cost $100 million, Landrieu said she believed it would provide her state with $300 million. Congrats to the Senator’s support of many months of efforts by R-Governor Bobby Jindal to obtain badly needed funding to help save lives of the poor of LA.
Third, some consider efforts to save our fellow citizens’ lives as wasteful pork barrel spending, as was almost $300 million Sister Sarah kept in Alaska for a bridge to nowhere that was never built. Civilized citizens view such as money well-invested, as saving human lives is kind of important to most folks, like bridges of life vs. bridges to nowhere.
Beware of use of snake oil by some people who are blinded by politics.
thetruth…
First, the idea that this health care plan is affordable is a farce. Take the number the Democrats are putting out and double it to account for all the mismanagement that will take place. Then understand that about 30 percent of all doctors will either retire to avoid dealing with the government garbage or get out of the field because they will lose revenue while watching their malpractice rates keep increasing.
Second, don’t think it’s just the GOP that wants to hide stuff. The socialists spent months trying to hide Slick Willie Jefferson before even the liberals in New Orleans realized he had to be booted.
Third, both sides sell their votes for pork regularly, but few have done it as blatantly as Mary Landrieu did it for her vote to start debate on the health care bill.
Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu of LA voted with her Party for the Senate Health Care Bill. In doing so she secured $300 million in Medicaid funding in Y2011 to partially offset $900 million in Medicaid funding LA is scheduled to lose in starting in Y2011.
Sold her vote? Oh, I’d think like all other Democrats did, Democrat Senator Landrieu was going to vote Party line, just like all Republicans, many of whom sold their votes to insurance corporate lobbyist, in the GOP’s block vote attempt to kill affordable health care for all citizens.
Being practicing deceit by not explaining the $300 million for much needed state Medicaid funding, and accusing a Dem as to selling a vote, might not want to start shining a spotlight on true vote selling, as members of the GOP would rather you all keep some stuff in the dark.
