What is your favorite part of the newspaper?
What part of the paper makes you angry, or inspires you, or makes you feel smarter?
What does your newspaper not have that you wish it had?
We're going to offer you the chance to answer such questions -- face to face -- and we'll buy you a cup of coffee to boot.
Beginning tomorrow, we are launching a series of visits to Richmond-area restaurants we're calling "Coffee With the RT-D." This is your chance to sound off about what you like about the
Richmond Times-Dispatch, what you don't like, and, most importantly, what you would do to change it.
Tomorrow morning, we'll be at McLeans Restaurant, 10372 Leadbetter Road in Atlee Corner Shopping Center. That's at the entrance to the Hanover Industrial Airpark in Hanover County. From Interstate 95, you'll take Exit 86. Coffee is served at 9 a.m.
As night editor of The Times-Dispatch, I am involved in the day-to-day discussion of what goes in the paper and where it goes, particularly for the front page (Page A1) and the local news front (Page B1).
In December, we invited readers to visit The Times-Dispatch and listen to the discussion at our daily news meeting. Since that invitation was issued, we've had about 50 visitors, and more are welcome. (If you're interested in making such a visit, contact our office manager, Andrea Bedson, at (804) 649-6307, or e-mail .)
Now, we're going to bring the discussion to you, although on a smaller scale. Each month, I'll visit a different local eatery and will bring with me different editors from the paper. Tomorrow at McLeans, I'll be joined by Glenn Proctor, the paper's executive editor, and Paige Mudd, our local news editor.
This effort is part of a community initiative that includes our Public Squares, News Roundtables, and Listening Tours.
We'll start our visit tomorrow with a few simple questions from me, so we know a little something about you. Then I'll say to you what I say to all visitors to the newsroom: Tell me what you think about
The Times-Dispatch, and don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings.
In future columns, I'll report on what we learned from our visits.
So, how do you take your coffee?

In a recent column about changes in our Sunday Business section, we included a list of the business staff members. Many people noticed that Marilyn Shaw, a longtime deputy editor in the business department, was not included in the list. Shaw is still with
The Times-Dispatch -- she recently began a new assignment as deputy news editor.

Reader Reactions
I am away in Florida, hence this E-Mail comment instead of being face-to-face. Down here on Sunday, the “Sun-Sentinel” arrives with all of its separate advertising special sections neatly enclosed in a plastic wrapper. The major thing I dislike about our Richmond paper is coping with the Sunday added special sections spilling out on the floor as I try to arrange the paper for reading. Is it possible to insert these slippery, bulky sections into a plastic bag or wrapper?
