Back to Africa
President Barack Obama's dramatic trip to Ghana generated the widespread coverage it deserved. Another president's relations with Africa received insufficient attention -- and never mind that that predecessor left Obama a strong legacy on which to build.
According to Bob Geldof, founder of Live Aid for Africa, George Bush "has done more than any other president so far" to fight poverty and AIDS in Africa. Geldof even traveled with Bush to Africa to inspect projects firsthand. He wrote about the experience for Time, but Bush's Africa initiatives otherwise have earned scant attention. Praise from Cokie and Steve Roberts is the exception that proves the rule. Bono, another celebrated activist and rock star, also has lauded Bush's commitment to Africa.
Townhall.com recently ran a column from Paul Kregor that described Bush's efforts, which the president announced in his 2003 State of the Union address when he asked Congress to appropriate $15 billion to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). A bipartisan Congress complied. A study by Stanford University's School of Medicine concludes that PEPFAR has saved millions of lives, and, in the words of a researcher, "is changing the course of the AIDS epidemic."
News of the accomplishment seldom appears. Despite the enthusiasm of Geldof and Bono, the left cannot rouse itself to credit Bush with any good. And campaigns such as PEPFAR do not typically stir the right, Kregor laments.
Ronald Reagan said he lived by the motto that there is no limit to what people can accomplish if they do not care who gets the credit. George W. Bush contributed to great good in Africa, yet the story remains relatively untold -- as the best ones often are.

Another ‘mea culpa’ from the RTD for joining with the so called Main Stream Media to portray George W Bush in a less than flattering light at every opportunity.
For all the coverage of ‘Bush Stole the Election’ in 2000, there was very little mention after the fact that recount after recount showed Bush won.Even the front page of the NYT ceded that.Once.
For all the stories on the front page about ‘Bush Lied,People Died’ there were only small articles buried inside the paper about the real triumphs of the Iraq war.(i.e military victories, found WMD, yellowcake)
For all the acrimony over the ‘Outing of Valerie Plame’ there was very little discussion of the fact that NO ONE was charged with that offense because there was no law broken except by Scooter Libby who was caught in a perjury trap, an ancillary crime.
For eight years the MSM never missed a chance to undermine the Bush administration and squandered every opportunity to cover his achievements.
The results of that misinformation can be seen in these posts everyday with bogus, ridiculous points being made by otherwise articulate people.
So set the record straight RTD.How about a front page article on all the good things Bush did for Africa.Maybe you could run it right before the 2009 gubernatorial election. You could place it right next to the inevitable and upcoming hit piece on Bob Mc Donnell scheduled to run that same day.
