Hating the West - No Joke

While watching CNN coverage of an anti-Ahmadinejad demonstration in Iran, we saw a protestor waving a poster whose message screamed, "Down With Britain." While direct criticism of Ahmadinejad and the religious powers behind him might put a person at risk of prison or execution, blaming John Bull for Iran's dubious elections seems something of a stretch.

We remembered a joke.

A French conservative arrived home early one afternoon after working in the Paris bourse, only to find his wife in bed with his best friend. "It's your fault," he yelled before shooting both.

A French liberal arrived home early one afternoon after working in the bureaucracy, only to find his wife in bed with his best friend. "It's my fault," he yelled before shooting himself.

A French communist arrived home early one afternoon after working to organize a transit strike, only to find his wife in bed with his best friend. The communist ran out, picked up a brick, and threw it at the American embassy.
