This month Metro Richmond at Prayer renewed its covenant. Participating congregations will continue to pray not only for the region generally but for specific challenges within the community.
Metro Richmond at Prayer blends many voices. Diverse dispensations unite to overcome crime, violence, racism, poverty, dispossession, alienation, and economic uncertainty, as well as the disquietude that occurs when men and women lose sight of their true natures.
Prayer takes many forms. It is said and heard in settings private and communal, in closets and in cathedrals. There are improvised prayers spoken from the wellsprings; others flow from liturgies whose ancient cadences echo the harmony of the spheres. Prayer inhabits the person praying. Silently or aloud, individuals and parishes ask for intercessions and offer thanksgivings. The content and format vary by situation. What is appropriate in one place may not be appropriate in others. In Metro Richmond at Prayer, believers pray in their sanctuaries, where they are reminded that God "didst vouchsafe to give gladness unto the world."
Whether standing, sitting, or kneeling, participants affirm their faith that all are children of God and are created in His image and likeness. Prayer is worship. Worship leads to service. Service compels sacrifice. Metro Richmond at Prayer heals. Let us adore.
