Out of Mexico

Protesters recently descended on Farmville to oppose the location there of a detention facility for illegal immigrants.

The protesters made all the usual arguments, and some novel ones. One protester carried a sign reading, "We are indigenous with the right to migrate everywhere in our continent!"

Interesting theory. Does it mean an indigenous New Yorker could move to Canada, or Mexico, or Honduras, without obeying those countries' laws? Not bloody likely.

In fact, Mexico deports more illegal immigrants each year than the United States does. And Mexico's General Law on Population stipulates that "a penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of 300 to 5,000 pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally."

Maybe the protesters should head south of the border and see how far they get before winding up in the hoosegow.

Hey Dave, Doesn’t the Constitution reads as “We the people fo the United States….“?  does this mean that the people of the United states consist of everybody that sets foot on our soils or is it for those who are citizens and legal immigrants? Wouldn’t this be an interesting court case?  Sue the government for giving quasi citizen ship to those who enter this country as crimminals?  Same thing as making a District a state without following the proper procedures right? We don’t need no constitution with the people we have running the country.

Why is a detention facility necessary? If they are illegal, then how difficult is it to have arrangements to deport them ASAP? Oh, we have to give them due process? I don’t think so. They aren’t citizens, and since they chose to come here illegally they have demonstrated they have no intention of becoming citizens, so they don’t want or deserve the protections of the Constitution. Ship ‘em out on plains, trains and automobiles. That’s cheaper than building detention facilities since we’ll eventually have to ship them out anyway.
