Divisional winners will compete in spelling bee

The champions from 33 school divisions will compete this month in the Richmond Times-Dispatch Regional Spelling Bee to determine who will represent the region in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The national bee will be May 26-28 in Washington. The final rounds will be televised on ESPN.
The regional bee will be at 1 p.m. March 14 at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. The winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship from The Times-Dispatch and an expenses-paid trip to Washington for the winner and family the week of the national bee.
The results of the divisional bees are listed in alphabetical order by school division. Listed are the winner's name, age at the time of the divisional bee, parents, grade, school, number of rounds in bee and winning word. That is followed by the runner-up, age, parents, grade and school.
The first group of divisional winners ran in yesterday's Metro section, and the rest will run tomorrow.
Hanover County: Yashna Nainani, 9, daughter of Raj and Madhu Nainani of Mechanicsville, fourth grade, Pearson's Corner Elementary School, 16 rounds, "adagio." Runner-up: Cal Costic, 10, son of Lee and Deneen Costic of Mechanicsville, fifth grade, Laurel Meadown Elementary School.
Henrico County: Aditya Kannoth, 8, son of Vinod and Sarita Kannoth, third grade, Rivers Edge Elementary School, nine rounds, "unenforceable." Two runners-up: Madison Pippert, 10, daughter of Phil and Donna Pippert, fourth grade, Springfield Park Elementary School; and Matthew Chilton, 9, son of Dottie and Gil Chilton, fourth grade, Three Chopt Elementary School.
Home School: Barry Holland, 10, son of Jason and DeLisa Holland of Mechanicsville, fifth grade, 31 rounds, "ergonomic." Runner-up: Hannah Mills, 13, daughter of Rebecca and Allen Mills of Henrico, eighth grade.
Hopewell: Ayanna Ogaldez, 14, daughter of Carla Ogaldez, eighth grade, Carter G. Woodson Middle School, 13 rounds, "influenza." Runner-up: Azeem Holland, 10, son of Nekita Peebles, fourth grade, Harry E. James Elementary School.
King and Queen County: William Tristan Sumner, 10, son of Keith Sumner of Shacklefords, fifth grade, King and Queen Elementary School, 12 rounds, "mascot." Runner-up: Joseph Gran, 9, son of Kurt and Teresa Gran of Newtown, fourth grade, Lawson-Marriott Elementary School.
King William County: Dakotah Smith, 10, daughter of David and Susan Smith of Manquin, fourth grade, Acquinton Elementary School, six rounds, "corporal." Runner-up: Lydia Erbaugh, 10, daughter of Doug and Gail Erbaugh, fifth grade, Acquinton Elementary School.
Lancaster County: Bethany Milstead, 14, daughter of Shirley Gry of Kilmarnock, eighth grade, Lancaster Middle School, 15 rounds, "agreeable." Runner-up: Destiny Carter, 9, daughter of Michelle Seldon of Heathsville, fourth grade, Lancaster Middle School.
Louisa County: Nicklaus Tirico, 12, son of Jon Paul Tirico of Gum Spring, seventh grade, Louisa Middle School, four rounds, "analysis." Runner-up: Sarah Daley, 12, daughter of James Daley of Bumpass, seventh grade, Louisa Middle School.
Lunenburg County: Graham Smith, 11, son of Michael and Jennifer Smith, sixth grade, Lunenburg Middle School, one round, "ascend." Runner-up: Riley Jones, 8, daughter of K.T. and Bonnie Jones of Kenbridge, third grade, Kenbridge Elementary School.
Mecklenburg County: Justin Wright, 13, son of Yolanda Wright of Boydton, eighth grade, Park View Middle School, 10 rounds, "preemptive." Runner-up: Jewels Christy, 13, daughter of Rachael Brown of Chase City, eighth grade, Bluestone Middle School.
Middlesex County: Emma Barnhardt, 10, daughter of Lee and Cathy Barnhardt of Saluda, fifth grade, Middlesex Elementary School, eight rounds, "precious." Runner-up: Noah Woolard, 10, son of Scott and Allison Woolard, fifth grade, Middlesex Elementary School.
