MOYOCK, N.C. -- 1 killed, 1 hurt in helicopter crash

Authorities in northeastern North Carolina say an instructor pilot died and a student was seriously injured in a helicopter crash on the campus of the private security contractor Xe, pronounced "Zee."

Currituck County spokesman Randall Edwards said the crash occurred yesterday at 1:33 p.m. He said one person was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second was taken to a hospital in nearby Chesapeake, Va., with serious injuries.

Initial reports from the Federal Aviation Administration said only one person was hurt in the crash, but Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry confirmed yesterday afternoon that the pilot was killed.

Xe is the security and training company formerly known as Blackwater Worldwide. The company's campus is about 30 minutes south of Norfolk, Va.
