Report urges adding dikes and levees to Hampton Roads

NORFOLK -- A new report says Hampton Roads should start planning a system of dikes and levees now to protect the region against rising sea levels over the next century.

The 2009 State of the Region report released Tuesday also says the region should get serious about controlling carbon emissions. It recommends a state tax increase on gasoline and diesel to discourage motorists from driving as much.

The report warns that if nothing is done, large portions of prime beach and waterfront property will sink underwater. It also predicts that many properties will become uninsurable and some wildlife and plants will disappear.

The report was compiled by experts at Old Dominion University.

Incredible, are these people serious? Sounds to me as if they have already drank the kool-aid. Before these folks advocate the spending of billions of dollars in taxes to “save valuable property”, we need to discourage the building of “sifting sands”...
