Saint Paul's will install new president Saturday Satcher will become the ninth leader of the college in Lawrenceville

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The inauguration of Robert L. Satcher Sr. as the ninth president of Saint Paul's College will be held Saturday.

The installation ceremony will be held in the college's Taylor-Whitehead Gymnasium.

The school will continue to follow the values on which it was founded: faith, service, caring and transformation, Satcher said.

"Saint Paul's is and will remain an educational touchstone in its community and the world because it has never lost sight of these values," he said.

Satcher is a brother of Dr. David Satcher, the former surgeon general of the United States and currently an adviser to the United Nations World Health Organization.

The inauguration's opening ceremonies start at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with a service at Saint Paul's Memorial Chapel.

Additional inaugural activities include a musical concert by the Elegba Folklore Society, an art display sponsored by The Links Inc., and a jazz concert by Alton Hines, Van Lighty & the Space Stars.

There will also be a musical performance by the Columbia Pike Community Chorus and a theatrical performance sponsored by the Art Bank of Southside Virginia.

Satcher and his wife, Marian, have four children -- two of whom are physicians, one of whom is an entertainment manager and one whom is a chemist.

Their eldest son, Robert, is one of NASA's current astronauts and will participate in a space shuttle mission scheduled for launching in October.
