VIRGINIA BEACH -- Regent University has named Carlos Campo to succeed founder Pat Robertson as the school's next president.

Campo has served as the private Christian university's vice president for academic affairs since 2008 and will take over as president in August. Campo had Robertson's endorsement and received unanimous approval from school trustees last week.

The 79-year-old Robertson said this spring that he plans to retire in 2010 from the school he founded in 1978.

Campo came to Regent from the College of Southern Nevada, where he was interim vice president of academic affairs. He previously served as the college's dean of arts and letters and director of academic partnerships.

Very strange they chose today to have the announcement. It is funny that McDonnell’s ad is on this page too.

Not good timing.  Couldn’t they have waited until tomorrow to make this announcement?  This just reminds everyone once more that Robertson’s disciple is running for Governor.  Now Pat will be free 100% of the time to meddle in state politics.
