Police: Missing Va. Tech student seen hitchhiking

Virginia State Police say they believe a Virginia Tech student missing for nearly a month was hitchhiking after she left a Metallica concert in Charlottesville. Police said today that witnesses saw a woman fitting the description of 20-year-old Morgan Dana Harrington of Roanoke on a bridge that crosses railroad tracks trying to get a ride. Harrington became separated from her friends after she left the concert arena Oct. 17 and was denied re-entry. She told them she would find a way home. Police say they want to hear from anyone who might have loaned a cell phone to a woman fitting Harrington's description. Police say Harrington was wearing a distinctive necklace made of large crystal chain links.

Why wouldn’t her friends have stuck with HER?  I know when I go out with my friends we keep track of each other… especially in a crowd.  Someone is not telling the whole story.

it should be noted that the rules of no re entry are on the ticket and posted at every door.

How can JPJ be responsible at all for someone’s actions and choices?  Dangerous?  I don’t see how it would be dangerous.  She is an adult, and it is a public place.  She has the freedom to leave when she wants.  For whatever reason any venue has not to allow re admittance, that is THEIR RULES, if you don’t want to abide by it, DON’T GO.  I am sure there were many other people that left, and couldn’t go back in…what happened to those people?  Maybe they made some better choices….

Typically places do not allow reentry because someone can walk out with several ticket stubs and come in with people that did not have an original ticket.  It is usually made very clear if you leave you cannot get back in.  Why not just wait for your friends?

ProudAmerican - she was likely trying to get to Harrisonburg/JMU I believe that’s where her car was.  (Not that it makes hitchhiking any less of a bad idea).

Most venues have No Reentry policies, I think part of it is for their own profit/control.  If they allowed exit and re-entry, people could go to their car and eat or drink, then come back.  I’m not saying that’s wrong or right, that’s just the only reason I can see for them doing it.

Randy, that’s the policy of most venues anywhere.  There is no re-entry once you leave the building.  No one but Harrington is at fault for that part of the story.  What I want to know is why didn’t she just wait for her friends to get out of the concert.  That’s what I would have done.  Hitchhiking back to Blacksburg was a stupid idea, if that’s what she was trying to do.

Why was she denied re-entry? That’s very dangerous at night? Who did this? Are they in trouble? They are partially responsible for what happened.
