Swine flu update: Cases confirmed at 5 Henrico schools
Cases of H1N1 "swine" flu were confirmed today at three Henrico County schools: Deep Run High School, Laburnum Elementary School and Jackson Davis Elementary School.
Already, cases were confirmed at Short Pump and Brookland middle schools.
Affected schools sent letters from the health department home with students, said Mychael Dickerson, Henrico schools spokesman. Custodial staffs are cleaning each building extra thoroughly as a precaution.
The Henrico Health District had a total of six confirmed cases as of today, according to state health department officials. The Chesterfield District, which includes Powhatan and Colonial Heights, had six confirmed cases. The Richmond district had one case.
Elsewhere in the region's schools, swine flu has been confirmed recently at Richmond's William Fox Elementary School and at Hanover County's Pole Green Elementary School. Students at Chesterfield County's Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center also have been infected.
