FALLS CHURCH — Fairfax County police are surrounding a Falls Church house where they believe a man who allegedly shot and injured a woman is hiding.

The standoff continued all night after the shooting Tuesday evening on a neighborhood street. By Wednesday morning, several streets in the Pimmit Hills neighborhood were blocked by police.

Authorities say a woman was critically injured and taken to a hospital after the shooting. Police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell says investigators believe the woman knows the man who shot her.

Investigators also believe the man knows occupants in the home where he is hiding and that there are other people in the house with him.
