Hearing starts in Roanoke SOL testing probe
Published: August 27, 2009
ROANOKE — It could be more than two months before the Roanoke School Board determines whether a high school principal acted improperly regarding the Standards of Learning tests.
William Fleming High School Principal Susan Willis says she looks forward to refuting allegations that she and other administrators changed the schedules of dozens of special education students to keep them from taking SOL tests.
A closed-door grievance hearing on the matter is set to conclude Thursday. But the panel has 30 days to make a recommendation to the school board, which has a further 30 days to take action, which can be appealed by Willis within 10 days.
Two other administrators cited in a state Department of Education report have retired, while another was demoted.

Please note all the administrators caught up in this—not teachers. Would someone please ask why so many administrators are needed to ‘administer’ the test? How much is spent on them? How many kids have THEY taught? This is where ‘education’ money goes, not the classroom.
