Kaine to visit Franklin to meet with International Paper employees

» 21 Comments | Post a Comment

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine is headed to Franklin this afternoon to meet with community leaders and employees at International Paper, an economic mainstay that announced last week it was closing its mill in Isle of Wight County.

Officials say 1,100 people will be out of work when International Paper shuts down the facility next spring. The company said business has been poor for writing and photocopy papers, as well as the coated cardboard for packaging that is made in the plant in southeastern Virginia.

The blame lies squarely on Kaine’s shoulders. He has done a Terrible job. His level of mis-management is at an all time high. What a job killing disaster. Our Highway Rest stops sure looks good! Great first time impression for out of state travelors.

“ that idiot kaine started off in office with a SURPLUS in state budget and squandered it and now everyone is paying for it…literally”
*******

The recession caused a decline in tax revenue to the tune of $3 billion or so, that’s not something a governor has control over.  Cutting taxes by $3 billion and shrinking state government would be accomplishments any GOP politician would be proud of so I’m not sure why commenters here are so down on Kaine for doing it, even if it wasn’t intentional.

“Socialism is the equal distribution of poverty.“

Socialist Norway: higher per capita income than USA.

“J-Reb”, your ignorance really shows….first of all, you shouldnt be glad that he laid off anyone, that idiot kaine started off in office with a SURPLUS in state budget and squandered it and now everyone is paying for it…literally…but to stay that you are glad that he is laying off state workers?......VDOT and VITA, yeah, at least those higher management types…..but the state police and dept of corrections?...what are YOU going to do when the prisons have multiple escapes and 5 guys with 100 years each come knocking on your door?......with kaine cutting back everything, the local law enforcement is hurting as well because they receive funding from the state…....but enough about that…i think that instead of all of these people losing their jobs, etc….the people in the house, general assembly, better yet, tim kaine, all of them should be paid based upon performance but WE need to judge them lol…if they judge their own performance they will continue to get the raises that they have been getting…instead of cutting back state jobs, they should cut back HIS pay….and ‘mrcs’ while i dont agree with tim kaine,he is not president obama…....there are sooo many of you that dont realize that this mess has been going on for some years…the difference is that since there is a shift in the political balance, a lot of employers aren’t receiving the perks that they were getting when the republican administration was in the forefront…..but that is beside the point, we are talking about tim kaine and as far as virginia is concerned. he has done a phcnkg horrible job…..that is one of the MAJOR reasons creigh deeds will not win this election….

“Where was Kain when the 2000+ Ford workers in Norfolk lost their jobs?“
******

Cutting unemployment checks just like he’ll be doing for the 1,100 people in Franklin who are out of work now.

Where was Kain when the 2000+ Ford workers in Norfolk lost their jobs? Kaine is just doing this as a publicity stunt trying to salvage his trashed image.

What they should do is dangle a carrot to IP with tax breaks and regulatory breaks. It would be a whole lot cheaper in the long run and would save Franklin.

1% of the population owns 95% of the wealth in this country.

Sure, some may have earned it, but most of it was inherited and leveraged to further that concentration.

That is capitalism, but it doesnt represent my understanding of the American Dream. We are all just so lucky that we are so ridiculously wealthy as a people that the remaining 5% of wealth can be shared by the other 99%.

Kaine, if you want to know how to make paper “””photocopy paper””” with a gelatin coating just let some people from VA know and we will help you bring JOBS back. If IP wants to move overseas let them!

Grow some B###’s and support American- - - Virginia business for so called “””photocopy paper””” out-dated technology!

It’s made with TREES,,,pulp,,, pig-bone remains ,,,left over’s,,, ‘SKELETON parts REFINED” “ micro pulverized,,, and reacted into a soluble liquid product,,, you know like JELL-O—-Bill Cosby products to only be calendered into paper, coated and calendered some more to only be coated again if needed! Educate yourself Sir before going to IP and act like you care!!!! It’s coated to a specific coating weight by air knife on both sides, Myer rod coated or printed on paper to except ink jet ink…

OVER REGULATED,,,maybe???

All you GOVERNMENT boys and girls really need to do is “EDUCATE YOURSELF”, or “ASK QUESTIONS” about out dated technology that CHINA, “”“France”“” and points south love to, oh well manufacture!!!

Outdated my Bee hind!!!

Observer, my point is capitalism is the unqual distribution of wealth. Socialism is the equal distribution of poverty.

I choose capitalism.

No, wait a minute: Isn’t this plant closure Obama’s fault?! Isn’t this….SOCIALISM!!!! Oh, that’s right, it’s capitalism—the same economic philosophy, which leans heavily on deregulation, that created this recession and that features corporate fat cats regularly laying off tens of thousands of employees to boost the stock prices of their companies—and their earnings!
