NEWPORT NEWS — Northrop Grumman Corp. has snared a $2.5 billion Navy contract to refuel and overhaul the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.

The work will be conducted at the company’s Newport News shipyard.

The Roosevelt is scheduled to arrive at the shipyard this month for the overhaul, which is expected to last more than three years. It is the ship’s only refueling and overhaul in a 50-year life span.

More than 3,800 shipyard workers will be involved during peak periods of the project.
