Oregon woman on bike dies after being struck by dump truck at Va. Tech

BLACKSBURG — An Oregon woman has died after a dump truck struck her bicycle on the Virginia Tech campus, an official said.

The truck was hauling dirt to a construction site near a dining hall when it hit Bonnie Tinker, 61, of Portland, Ore., about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, said Larry Hincker, a Tech spokesman. The accident remains under investigation.

Tinker was attending a conference on campus with the Religious Society of Friends, Hincker said. About 1,300 people were attending the conference.
