YORKTOWN — A rare broadside printing of America’s Declaration of Independence will go on display Oct. 1 at the Yorktown Victory Center.

The printing dates to July 1776 and was acquired with money provided by a private foundation of the center that celebrates the nation’s colonial past and the American Revolution.

The document measures 17 by 11-7/8 inches. It was printed in Boston soon after the declaration was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, and before a handwritten copy was signed by members of Congress.

Officials say it will be a cornerstone of a planned new 80,000-square-foot building that will replace the center, which opened in 1976.
