State orders Danville to return grant money

DANVILLE — The state has ordered Danville to return more than $68,000 in Homeland Security Grant funds following an audit.

Danville officials requested the audit following reports of poor record-keeping in the city’s Department of Emergency Services. The department’s former director resigned in January.

The audit by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management found that some funds hadn’t been used within the eligibility period of grants. More than $47,000 was used for expenditures not funded by various grants.

City Manager Lyle Lacy says there’s no evidence of any personal gain as a result of the bookkeeping errors.

Auditors reviewed records from 1999 to 2005

Still talking to yourself….

Dave,

Bob is the intellectually challenged Republican who thinks his connection with a fundamentalist TV preacher will guarantee him the solid support of the Religious Right, no matter many moderate sound bites he uses to woo independent voters.  Pat Robertson has given his followers that old super-secret wink.

Fortunately, independents are going to ask what has he actually accomplish during those years.  Kind of slim pickings.

Anon: Who was talking about ‘Bob’ or ‘an Attorney General’? You’re talking to yourself. I do too from time to time, but at least I’m aware enough to know it. Now, answer MY question.

Accepting Jesus was the only requirement for Bob to get into Christian Broadcasting Network University Law School.  We had an Attorney General whose grasp of the Constitution was muddied by Pat Robertson’s sermons.  Now you want to make him Governor!

Anon: I agree. No governor should give out rewards for being saved. Folks who are already have theirs—they don’t need anything more from the state. Have you got yours yet?

It’s a good thing Gov. Kaine is keeping a close eye on these local governments.  Imagine what it would be like if some religious fanatic were running the state.  He would probably be giving out awards to these same officials for accepting Jesus as their Savior.

I think if the auditors would just do their jobs in a TIMELY manner…perhaps this state would be in better financial shape.  It is very difficult for me to believe that so many people in various government agencies can misallocate hundreds of thousands of dollars every single year!  Why are these people not having to surrender their salaries?...make restitution to the state???...HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR JOB???
