A Richmond businessman who wants to unseat Rep. Eric I. Cantor next year launched his campaign today with a stinging attack but later said he made an “honest mistake” with a key allegation.

Charlie Diradour also acknowledged today that he doesn’t live in the 7th District, which is not a requirement.

Diradour, who will seek the Democratic nomination next year to run against the House Republican whip, released a YouTube video that he said showed Cantor used his BlackBerry to Twitter during President Barack Obama’s nationally televised speech on health care.

Cantor had earlier said he used the BlackBerry to take notes during the address.

After Diradour’s allegations, Cantor’s campaign said that none of the Twitter messages were sent during Obama’s speech. Time stamps on the messages also showed that.

Diradour, however, said one of the tweets could have been made during the speech, but he wasn’t sure.

“It was an honest mistake,“ Diradour of the error in his allegations.

Ray Allen Jr., senior stratgist for Cantor for Congress, said “no tweets went out during the president’s speech—period.“

“This charge is an outrageous lie. It is amazing that someone who thinks he wants to represent the good people of the 7th District would begin his campaign with an outrageous lie and fabrication,“ Allen said.

Diradour later said that regardless, Cantor should not have been using the BlackBerry during the president’s speech.

Diradour’s Web video points out that the House rules of decorum and debate include a provision that members shall “refrain from eating, smoking or using electronic equipment, including cellular phones or laptop computers, on the floor.“

I don’t think either party can point the finger at the other when it comes to corruption. One is as bad as the other.

Agreed.  And when we identify a corrupt individual, the media needs to do their job and investigate and go after them.  The people need to too.  This is where we need to work together in order to “clean house.“  Otherwise we’re just going to keep electing these hacks like we have been doing for years now.  Then we get angry when they turn out to be bad.  Go figure…

“Isnt there a pretty long list with former lawmakers that were actually convicted on corruption charges?

I dont think those 3 are on that list.“

Yes, the list includes Dems & Repubs.

But keep the list open, those 3 should be added, particularly Rangle who is being investigated for tax issues while he heads the tax legislative process, proposing increased taxes on the rest of us!

Please give me a break…taking notes on a speech you had a copy of in advance?  Huh??? You can read right?

Not sure where you two have been, but if you kept up with the news you would know that Cantor said he was using his blackberry because he DIDN’T receive a copy of the speech in advance.  Again, as people have said a thousand times this is a non issue.  Get over yourselves.

I will also vote for almost anyone who replaces his clown,Cantor.

Dear Mr. Cantor

Please give me a break…taking notes on a speech you had a copy of in advance?  Huh??? You can read right?

You were being immature again, showing how you can act like it’s all so boring for you.  Maybe it IS time for a change.

I voted for Cantor before, but I will vote for almost anyone who replaces this clown.  Bring it on.

If Cantor made a false accusation about Diradour, he would be crucified.  Why should we believe Diradour? Cantor wouldn’t be believed.  Diradour is a liar and a thief who can’t be trusted to represent the 7th district.

Three names to remember when you mention government corruption:
Charley Rangle, Chris Dodd, Barney Fife, oops, Frank.

Starting a political campaign with lies..oops I mean honest mistakes makes me eager to watch this guy lose.  Did Pelosi advice this guy that his life will be scrutinized by many too?
