Bill Clinton to speak to Va. Democrats

Former President Bill Clinton will be the keynote speaker at the Democratic Party of Virginia's annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner on Feb. 7.

Party spokesman Jared Leopold said yesterday that the three Democratic gubernatorial candidates -- former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe, former Del. Brian J. Moran of Alexandria and state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds of Bath County -- also will speak. The candidates for lieutenant governor and attorney general are expected to attend as well.

The event, a major fundraiser for the party, will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 N. Third St. Last year, the dinner featured Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton, who then were vying for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Leopold said last year's dinner raised more than $500,000 for the state party.

Wow, $500,000? Maybe the party of the ‘little guy’ might consider forking some of this year’s boodle over to folks losing jobs and trying to make ends meet. Nah. They’ll just use OUR money to feel good about themselves.
