Another new poll shows Republican Bob McDonnell with a solid lead over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds in the race for governor.

McDonnell, a former state attorney general, led Deeds, a state senator from Bath County, 50 percent to 43 percent with 6 percent undecided in the Rasmussen Reports telephone survey taken Monday. The survey of 500 likely voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

McDonnell led by 8 percentage points in a poll conducted for the Richmond Times-Dispatch and released Sunday.

On the campaign trail yesterday, Sheila Johnson, the co-founder of Black Entertainment Television, joined the Republican candidate for a Women for McDonnell event in Fairfax County.

Johnson, a Democrat and key backer of Timothy M. Kaine's 2005 campaign for governor, apologized last week for making fun of Deeds' stammering.

Meanwhile yesterday, Deeds met in Norfolk with students and faculty from Old Dominion University to discuss his plans to improve access to higher education. Kaine, who last week urged Deeds to "make the sale," had encouraged the Democratic nominee to emphasize his education plans.

With Deeds yesterday in Hampton Roads, C. Richard Cranwell, chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia, led Deeds backers who continued the Democrat's "Hope and Opportunity Tour" with stops in Lynchburg, Danville and Martinsville.

The tour continues today in Southwest Virginia with stops in Bluefield, Wytheville, Marion and Bristol.

Jody Wagner, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, yesterday released her second television ad of the general election campaign.

The ad, running in the Charlottesville, Norfolk, Richmond and Northern Virginia markets, criticizes Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, a Republican who is seeking re-election, for what Wagner calls his "atrocious attendance record" at meetings of advisory commissions.

Wagner says that in the past four years Bolling has attended about 6 percent of the meetings of nine state boards and commissions that he either is required by law to attend, or to which he "has a standing invitation."

Matt Wells, Bolling's campaign manager, said last month that Bolling attended meetings that required his attendance, while members of his staff covered other meetings.

"Bill has been briefed on these meetings, he has reviewed minutes from these meetings and he is familiar with the issues these commissions are considering," Wells added.

Are people this easily misled?  Jody Wagner includes “meetings to which Bill Bolling has a standing invitation” in her calculations of how many meetings he attends?  I would assume almost every state agency or commission would offer the Lt Governor a “standing invitation to attend.“  This is preposterous.  For example, say there are 20 churches in my neighborhood, all of which offer me a “standing invitation to attend.“  Yet, I choose to attend my church, every Sunday for an entire year.  By Ms Wagner’s calculations, I am only attending church 5% of the time.  If this is the logic Ms Wagner practiced as Secretary of Finance, no wonder the Commonwealth is in financial distress.

tamster and others who are easily lead astray by half-truths:

Virginia’s Lt. Governor position is only a part-time position and pays about $36000 (as constrasted to our 1/2 time governor’s $175,000 salary).  The primary responsibilities of the Lt. Governer are (according to the Constitution of Virginia)to serve as President of the Senate and preside over the Senate.  State code also dictates that he serve as a member of several state boards and councils.

Wagner carefully did not allege that Mr. Bolling did not attend to his primary responsibility.  She crafted a statement that is almost impossible for the public to verify and a statment that leads those who do not listen carefully to believe that he only shows up for work 6 days out of 100.

Wagner did not state that Mr. Bolling only goes to work 6% of the time.  She said that he attended only 6% of the meetings that he is required to attend or “has a standing invitation”. These “standing invitations” could be a significant portion of what does not get attended.  However, I checked her web site for some concrete numbers, and found none.  What I want to know is did Mr. Bolling personally attend those meeting which he is required to personally attend?  Did he send representatives to those which required lt. gov. office presence, but not the presence of the lt. gov. himself?  How many of the ‘missed’ meetings were ‘standing invitation’ and how many were required by constitution or code?  What is the total number of meetings that he is required to attend?  What is the total number of meetings to which he has a ‘standing invitation’?  Without these figures, it is impossible to judge the veracity of Wagner’s statment.

Liberal Media would say “Deeds up one point in polls” or perhaps “After debate McDonnell loses one point in polls”.

It is clear that the TD is in the tank for the Liberty/Regent bible literalist who wants to use the bully pulpit for enacting his backwoods version of sharia law.

Spotlight on the dominionists!

Bolling goes to work 6% of the time?  It’s time to put him 100% off the job.  I can only imagine how long I’d last in a job where I only showed up 6% of the time.
